Tactical Shotgun Training Course

Duration: 3 days

Venue: Classroom and range

Prerequisite:  None

Required equipment: 12 gauge shotgun (Remington 870, Bennelli or similar model), sling, Semi-automatic pistol, strong side hip holster, 4 magazines, magazine pouch (worn on support side), 1,000 rounds of ammunition (12 guage) and 150 rounds of ammunition for pistol.

This is a developmental course and will cover the fundamentals of shotgun use.  Topics will include:

• Firearms safety
• Weapon description (nomenclature and operation)
• Assembly, cleaning and maintenance
• Sight alignment and sight picture
• Stance
• Trigger control
• Slinging the weapon
• Ammunition use and selection
• How to mitigate the effects of recoil
• Ready gun positions
• Patterning the shotgun
• Basic shooting drills
• Reloading drills
• Multiple targets
• Moving with the shotgun
• Shooting on the move
• Barricade shooting
• Distance shooting (slug)
• Low-light shooting
• Clearing malfunctions
• Transition to handgun
