Required equipment: 12 gauge shotgun (Remington 870, Bennelli or similar model), sling, Semi-automatic pistol, strong side hip holster, 4 magazines, magazine pouch (worn on support side), 1,000 rounds of ammunition (12 guage) and 150 rounds of ammunition for pistol.
This is a developmental course and will cover the fundamentals of shotgun use. Topics will include:

- Assembly, cleaning and maintenance
- Sight alignment and sight picture
- Stance
- Trigger control
- Slinging the weapon
- Ammunition use and selection
- How to mitigate the effects of recoil

- Patterning the shotgun
- Basic shooting drills
- Reloading drills
- Multiple targets
- Moving with the shotgun
- Shooting on the move
- Barricade shooting
- Distance shooting (slug)
- Low-light shooting
- Clearing malfunctions
- Transition to handgun
